HARDSHIP IN NIGERIA: 32 YEARS OLD ISAAC STEALS POT OF SOUP

Hunger: 32 year-old steals pot of soup
As hardship con­tinued to take its toll on Nigerians, 32 year-old Ama­tere Isaac Wenibo was over the weekend apprehended by members of a vigilante group in Igbogene community in Yenagoa Local Government area of Bayelsa State over al­leged burglary of a shop, os­tensibly to steal a pot of soup.
According to the vigilan­te group, Wenibo, was appre­hended while settling down to devour the contents of the pot of soup with popular Yoruba cassava meal, Eba. The suspect is said to be an indigene of Akuwoni commu­nity in Okordia/Zarama area of Yenagoa Local Government Area and was reportedly ap­prehended very early, Friday morning at about 12:15am.
According to the Chair­man of the Igbogene Vigilan­te Committee, Chief Robbison Asomo Money Sweet, the sus­pect has been handed to au­thorities at the Igbogene Di­visional Police Station, adding that Wenibo was apprehend­ed with additional items in­cluding a wheel barrow, some quantities of garri, some trou­sers, Tee-shirts, slippers and shoes. Money Sweet explained: “The suspect was arrested for the burglary of a shop owned by an Igbo petty trader, iden­tified as a woman. The shop is a local eatery where Nigeri­an local delicacies are sold. He was apprehended while help­ing himself to the contents of the pot of soup and had the other items found on him beside him when we caught him”. At the time of filing the re­port, it is not known when the Police would charge the sus­pect to court as none of the senior police officers at the police station volunteered to speak in the absence of the Divisional Police Offic­er (DPO), who was said to have gone out on official as­signment.
