As hardship continued to take its toll on Nigerians, 32 year-old Amatere Isaac Wenibo was over the weekend apprehended by members of a vigilante group in Igbogene community in Yenagoa Local Government area of Bayelsa State over alleged burglary of a shop, ostensibly to steal a pot of soup.
According to the vigilante group, Wenibo, was apprehended while settling down to devour the contents of the pot of soup with popular Yoruba cassava meal, Eba. The suspect is said to be an indigene of Akuwoni community in Okordia/Zarama area of Yenagoa Local Government Area and was reportedly apprehended very early, Friday morning at about 12:15am.
According to the Chairman of the Igbogene Vigilante Committee, Chief Robbison Asomo Money Sweet, the suspect has been handed to authorities at the Igbogene Divisional Police Station, adding that Wenibo was apprehended with additional items including a wheel barrow, some quantities of garri, some trousers, Tee-shirts, slippers and shoes. Money Sweet explained: “The suspect was arrested for the burglary of a shop owned by an Igbo petty trader, identified as a woman. The shop is a local eatery where Nigerian local delicacies are sold. He was apprehended while helping himself to the contents of the pot of soup and had the other items found on him beside him when we caught him”. At the time of filing the report, it is not known when the Police would charge the suspect to court as none of the senior police officers at the police station volunteered to speak in the absence of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), who was said to have gone out on official assignment.
